My life and the journey to self-awareness

I’ve Moved!

Several months back I came up with an idea for my blog. I got a domain and learned that it is easy to move my blog to my new website. Well, it’s been quite a learning experience – and my site isn’t exactly how I want it, but I am proud to announce that I have officially moved my blog! I will not be posting here anymore.

Please update any/all the ways that you get updates about my blog and redirect yourselves to…

Wild Child Gone Good

I’m so happy to have this blog and even happier to have those of you who read it!

Thankful Thursday

I’ve decided to start blogging more often. I frequently tell people that I have a blog and that I’m so grateful to have it as an outlet. It’s still a baby blog, but hopefully as I grow in self discovery, so will my blog. I’ve even got a website Wild Child Gone Good I just need to figure out how to keep the theme I’ve created and move my blog over. (If anyone out there knows how to do that, we could talk ad space on my blog in exchange for creating the theme.)

This has been a pretty interesting week. I’ve decided to do everything in my power to stop focusing on what has gone wrong. Let’s focus on what was beautiful about the week and what went right! I guarantee each and every one of you – no matter how bad it seems, there is always something good in there, you have to find it and focus on that! Continue reading

Wednesday Weigh-In

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! I had a wonderful date with my knight (he took me to see Sex and The City 2!), and we went to 2 parties.

I’m going back to the Wednesday weigh-ins. I just love being able to link up with my girls from the Sisterhood, so I just can’t bring myself to move the day. Continue reading

Leaving the land of eternal funk

I am tired of complaining. I am tired of writing about being unfocused. And if I’m tired of it, I’m guessing you all must be ten times more tired of reading about it.

I had a very eventful (read stressful) April. I completed my first sprint triathlon and finished my 3rd year law school finals. Since then, I’ve been just twisting in the wind. I’ve got no focus, no direction. And let me tell you, my Itty Bitty Shitty Committee has staged a successful coup, and are almost incessantly and very loudly screaming. Drowning out any glimmer of motivation and positively I try and hold on to. Continue reading

ABC’s of Gratitude

It seems like so many self-help or inspirational books recommend keeping a gratitude journal. If you focus on what you are grateful for, and all the good in your life, you will attract more good. If you are focusing on the good, then you will be spending less time on what might not be going the way you hoped. It’s easy for me to write (or think) of 5 or so things that I’m grateful for on a daily basis: my knight, my son, the roof over our heads, enough money to eat and pay the bills, our health. Continue reading

Reaching New Heights

This weekend, my knight and I drove to Yosemite National Park. (Well, he drove and I navigated.)

We planned on leaving after he got off work, and it’s about a four hour drive. I’ve been struggling with some pretty difficult demons from my past (so I’m on edge and very emotional, and this will be the subject of a soon to be posted blog), and he was feeling stressed about leaving after having worked all day, so the trip got off to a tense start. But he has an amazing calming effect, and ultimately we work really well together, so the tension passed and we were on our way! We finally got on the road around 8:30, with the Jeep jammed packed! Falling in love again, with running!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I know I did! My knight and my son spoiled me all day! I couldn’t and wouldn’t have asked for anything more!

Because of my upcoming challenge (starts in one week on Monday 5/17 – and everyone is invited to join!), I am changing my weekly weigh in day to Mondays. Continue reading

Re-focusing, again – and a fitness challenge!

So much happened to me internally after I finished my sprint triathlon almost 3 weeks ago. And none of it was what I expected. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. Most people would finish a sprint triathlon and then feel like they could conquer the world. I finished and felt like I should have done better. Good grief! Continue reading

Fundraising for The Human Race

I am fundraising for a wonderful non-profit organization. Blood Bank of the Redwoods is a local blood bank that supports our community as well as hospitals across the nation. I had the privilege of working there for 5 years before deciding to pursue my legal career.

The first time I ran in the Human Race, I was working at the Blood Bank, so I naturally fundraised for them. The first time I ran in the Human Race, was the first time I participated in an organized run. I ran the 3K (1.8 miles) and remember I was just exhausted after. That was in 2005. Now, I’ve ran three 5Ks and just finished a sprint triathlon. It’s time for me to run my first 10K (6.2 miles). I can think of no better race to run my first 10K.

One of the reasons I am still fundraising for the Blood Bank of the Redwoods (I stopped working there in 2006), is that my daughter received 2 pints of lifesaving blood after being in a very serious car accident. (She is fully recovered now!) The Blood Bank is a very important non-profit organization to our community.

Please take a minute and help me reach my fundraising goal by donating here: Beki’s donation page

Your support is appreciated!

Thanks!

I tri’ed, and I finished!

That’s right! I finished my first triathlon!

Since the event took place about 2 hours from our home, Daniel and I drove down on Friday. We checked into the hotel and drove to Folsom Lake. We needed to get a successful swimming session in, in cold water. Plus we wanted to ride the course. For race day, the course was 2 laps around a 6.5 mile loop. Daniel and I rode the lap once and headed for the lake. We got our wetsuits on and in we went. It was encouraging to see children in swim suits playing in the water. But it was still cold. We should have checked out the run course… We left the park feeling pretty confident about Sunday, race day. Continue reading
