My life and the journey to self-awareness

Thankful Thursday

I’ve decided to start blogging more often. I frequently tell people that I have a blog and that I’m so grateful to have it as an outlet. It’s still a baby blog, but hopefully as I grow in self discovery, so will my blog. I’ve even got a website Wild Child Gone Good I just need to figure out how to keep the theme I’ve created and move my blog over. (If anyone out there knows how to do that, we could talk ad space on my blog in exchange for creating the theme.)

This has been a pretty interesting week. I’ve decided to do everything in my power to stop focusing on what has gone wrong. Let’s focus on what was beautiful about the week and what went right! I guarantee each and every one of you – no matter how bad it seems, there is always something good in there, you have to find it and focus on that! Continue reading

Wednesday Weigh-In

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend! I had a wonderful date with my knight (he took me to see Sex and The City 2!), and we went to 2 parties.

I’m going back to the Wednesday weigh-ins. I just love being able to link up with my girls from the Sisterhood, so I just can’t bring myself to move the day. Continue reading

Leaving the land of eternal funk

I am tired of complaining. I am tired of writing about being unfocused. And if I’m tired of it, I’m guessing you all must be ten times more tired of reading about it.

I had a very eventful (read stressful) April. I completed my first sprint triathlon and finished my 3rd year law school finals. Since then, I’ve been just twisting in the wind. I’ve got no focus, no direction. And let me tell you, my Itty Bitty Shitty Committee has staged a successful coup, and are almost incessantly and very loudly screaming. Drowning out any glimmer of motivation and positively I try and hold on to. Continue reading

Falling in love again, with running!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I know I did! My knight and my son spoiled me all day! I couldn’t and wouldn’t have asked for anything more!

Because of my upcoming challenge (starts in one week on Monday 5/17 – and everyone is invited to join!), I am changing my weekly weigh in day to Mondays. Continue reading

Fundraising for The Human Race

I am fundraising for a wonderful non-profit organization. Blood Bank of the Redwoods is a local blood bank that supports our community as well as hospitals across the nation. I had the privilege of working there for 5 years before deciding to pursue my legal career.

The first time I ran in the Human Race, I was working at the Blood Bank, so I naturally fundraised for them. The first time I ran in the Human Race, was the first time I participated in an organized run. I ran the 3K (1.8 miles) and remember I was just exhausted after. That was in 2005. Now, I’ve ran three 5Ks and just finished a sprint triathlon. It’s time for me to run my first 10K (6.2 miles). I can think of no better race to run my first 10K.

One of the reasons I am still fundraising for the Blood Bank of the Redwoods (I stopped working there in 2006), is that my daughter received 2 pints of lifesaving blood after being in a very serious car accident. (She is fully recovered now!) The Blood Bank is a very important non-profit organization to our community.

Please take a minute and help me reach my fundraising goal by donating here: Beki’s donation page

Your support is appreciated!

Thanks!

My Fitness Big 3

At the beginning of this year, I told Daniel that I wanted to log 250 miles of running in 2010.  I just looked at what I’ve logged so far this year, and if I keep up what I’m doing, I will run nearly 400 miles by the end of the year!  Wow!  Last year, I set a goal to try new things – things that were outside my comfort zone, things I may not like or be good at.  I just wanted to try.  That was my goal.  Continue reading

Triathlon Training – Week 4 Recap

Week #4

1/11/10 – Day 1: Today was a MUCH deserved day of rest! After the beating that my body took in our practice sprint tri yesterday, I’m sore and tired. I’m not as sore as I would have thought, but I’m most definitely tired!

1/12/10 – Day 2: Scheduled exercise today was a 2.75 mile run. It is raining outside, so I ran on the treadmill. I do NOT like running indoors. Ugh. I ran (and walked a couple of times) for 3.46 miles (45:05 minutes). Continue reading

2009: A Pivotal Year!

This has been by every interpretation of the phrase, a pivotal year for me! I started out 2009 with laryngitis and on a first date. I’ve ended this wonderful year knowing that my voice is being heard and with a man who is my last first date ever! I started this year stuck back in a career of accounting and am ending the year living out my dream of becoming a lawyer! I started this year raising Hudson all alone and have ended this year with Hudson having 2 positive male role models! I started this year continuing to be afraid of trying new things or getting outside of my comfort zone and I end this year training for my first ½ Ironman! Continue reading

Triathlon Training – The Journey Begins

At the beginning of November I decided I needed to lose 30 pounds and get back to my goal weight of 125 pounds. As of today, I’ve lost 10.4 lbs. I’m happy that I’ve lost weight, but need to really focus, because I can do better than 10 pounds in 2 months! Since about 2006, I’ve known I wanted to complete a triathlon, however I thought I would need to train for years before even considering entering one. I learned about what’s called a Sprint Triathlon – it’s ½ mile swim, 13 mile bike and a 4 mile run! I can TOTALLY do that! Continue reading
